Larry King was scheduled to have Dr. Jan Adams, the late Donda West’s doctor, appear on his show live tonight to answer questions and field accusations of malpractice and questionable behaviour in his career in medicine.
He declines on camera, stating that he doesn’t want to talk about this, or anything else related to the controversy surrounding him.
Moments before the show started, Larry King addresses viewers that Dr. Adams has received a legal notice that if he discloses any information or details related to Donda West, that they would request to the Medical Board to take away his license. Brief footage aired shows Dr. Adams declining to appear on the show, stating that he has, “…tremendous amount of love and respect for the West family,” as his reason. He then promptly removes his ear piece, stands up, shakes Larry’s hand and steps away.
In his place, a panel of media representatives from various entertainment outlets spoke of possible reasons, benefits, and repercussions of his decision to not appear. Dr. Adams had a chance to use the show as a medium to clear the air about his actions, but his decline to appear may give off an image of copping out.
I think all of us want to hear this man speak and people want answers, however there is the legal issue of patient/doctor confidentiality. What’s more is that Larry King and others have stated that he could very well discuss the other issues surrounding this controversy without explicitly discussing the details of Donda West. Criminal attorney’s brought in to voice their opinions say speaking on television about this and other issues surrounding it opens Dr. Adams to huge liability issues - a stupid move on his behalf especially since litigation seems like a most certain thing.
The biggest issue however, is that questions will remain unanswered. Larry even said to Dr. Adams, that if not now, then when? Dr. Adams replies in his brief appearance with, “…when they are comfortable, then I will be comfortable. If they are never comfortable, then I’ll never be comfortable.”
Larry King has made an offer to Dr. Adams to re-appear tomorrow.
Some memorable words before Dr. Adams leaves the set after declining the interview
Larry King - Don’t you want to speak out?”
Dr. Adams - Nope. I don’t wanna.
