Ne-Yo Makes it Better in Vancity!
August 15th, 2007Juiced up by: M-Cubed
On Sunday August 12th, The FreshJamz Squad had the privilege to see one of the biggest rising stars in the R&B world. Ne-Yo graced the stage at the Plush nightclub in Vancity and put on an smokin’ show. The power-packed lineup featured some local talent as Vancity’s own Cory Lee and Noble opened the show before the main event took over. With a sold out crowd settin’ the mood right and keepin’ the energy flowin’, the atmosphere was poppin’ and the show would not disappoint.
Hit the jump to read how Ne-Yo rocked Vancity!
ACT I: Soul Sistahs

The Soul Sistahs opened the show with a few oldschool covers including En Vogue’s “Don’t Let Go”. The “Sistahs” all had fantastic singing presences but these girls need to start developing their own sound — we would have loved to hear an original composition. Although phenomenal for a cover band, they’ll have to differentiate themselves from every other girl group if they want to make a splash in the industry.
ACT II: Noble
Probably the most successful R&B artist to hail from Vancity in recent years, Noble uses his smooth, “Frankie J-esque” voice to woo the ladies. He performed a couple of new tracks and then finished with his hit song “Slow Down”, which topped the charts on Vancity’s The Beat 94.5. He also flashed off his lyrical spit as he broke it down and rapped some lines in one of his new songs–not bad for home grown.
However, his attempt to bring two “lucky” women on stage and serenade them, turned out to actually be unlucky for him; the girls werekinda HELLA reluctant. Not being phased by this, he went on to perform a sick rendition of “Slow Down” and then passed the mic on to another one of Vancity’s talented artists.
ACT III: Cory Lee
This talented (and gorgeous!) half Asian/half Caucasian rising pop star hailing out of Vancity has been slowly climbing the pop charts. Performing a medley of her four top songs: “Naughty Song”, “Ovaload”, “Goodbye”, and “Lover’s Holiday,” along with two sultry dancers, Cory Lee put on an explosive performance. Cory does what she does good, as her sexually charged dance routine made the FreshJamz Squad a little weak in the knees… Any who, the performance was enjoyable and it set the stage nicely for the piece de resistance.
Main Event: Ne-Yo
After what seemed like a gatdamn long time, the main star finally appeared to put a some bump in our trunks. “Nice Look Ne-Yo” as Fabolous likes to call him, was born to perform. Using all the tools in his arsenal he made the ladies swoon, the fellas respect, and Vancity recognize that he is the real deal. Performing tracks off of his new album and some off of his debut album, there wasn’t a note sung out of tune — the guy was even able to hit the floor and break it down!
One of the most memorable moments was when multi-talented Ne-Yo flaunted his song writing skills, having the DJ spin some mega hits for the world to hear his genius. Ne-Yo was the writing talent behind hit songs such as Mario’s Let Me Love You, Rihianna’s Unfaithful, and even Beyoncé’s smash hit, Irreplaceable — you can bet your sweet ass the FreshJamz Squad was belting it out to that jam.
A true performer, Ne-Yo worked the crowd with comedy and story-telling, beautifully coupled with his performance. He even had ladies fighting to the death for his “sweat-rag” (towel)… well not to the death persé, but you get the idea. At the end of the performance, Ne-Yo had us put our hands together and swore us into his family of fans — not a dry eye in the heezy yo. Truly a class act.
Ne-Yo definitely has a bright future ahead of him in the R&B world if he keeps up performances like this. Quite a Vancity debut for “Nice Look Ne-Yo”, hopefully this isn’t the last we’ll see of him.
Big ups to Pi Entertainment for bringing this star performer over to Vancity.
i wish i couldve been there!! did he sing so sick??
and damn that noble is HOT!
Yeah that Noble is hot I agree. He was amazing on stage probably better then Neyo. Have to give him huge props for representing Canada. There doesnt seem to be any good R&B talent coming out these days. Support local talent people!!!!!

Sorry but those girls need to either diet or get a stylist or something. Even if there not a group as professional solo singers they should know better then to take gigs light hearted. Even gigs counts. Sex sells!!!
Neyo & Noble rocked… They both hot as hell!!!
